Prior to getting into the handcrafted bath and body products business, Daniella Lucero was a commercial photographer in Los Angeles. As owner of M Soaps, she came to soapmaking via her mother, Marguerite, who founded the company.

Marguerite started her craft soap business in 2001 and retired in 2018. Daniella became a partner in M Soaps three years ago and took over the company when her mother retired. She describes how her mother came to make craft soaps and other products, saying “It was her dream. Marguerite started it as a result of a science project she did with her 6th grade class. She was a school teacher for 34 years.”

M Soaps produces handcrafted bath and body products, specializing in CBD (cannabidiol) topical care. Says Daniella, “We provide beautiful products that help people live better lives and feel good. We also make trying and using CBD products not so weird.”

M Soaps attempts to use as many local vendors and products/ingredients as possible, including using a local printer for packaging and a local CBD broker.

Danielle credits her husband, Chris, for supporting her business venture, saying “He is the voice of sanity and reason when I can’t be. He is an amazing human. I’m so lucky to have him by my side.”

She says that the next step for M Soaps will be “to get our products into the mainstream market. We opened our Tennessee facility that is capable of large manufacturing orders. So we have been making steps towards that goal.”

Thinking of pursuing a business pathway similar to M Soaps? Daniella advises, “Be ready to be all in. And have a clear vision of what you want your company to look like. Do you want to own a company or have a job, they are two very different things.”
