TIE DYE TO DIE FOR : Colors by Victoria’s Tie Dyed Vision

When I was a teenager, tie dye T-shirts were quite the rage. This was many years ago, and back then most of us dyed our own shirts - with mom’s help, of course. Today, tie dye clothing is even more popular, and one of Utah’s most talented artists, Victoria Winsett, specializes in tie dye clothing and fabrics.

Her company is called Colors by Victoria, and Victoria Winsett explains her products saying, “I make handmade one-of-a-kind tie dye clothing, uniquely dyed quilting fabric, silk scarves, and other items. You will find tie dye designs that you won’t find anywhere else.” Her daughter, Leanne is also an artist who can usually be found at her mom’s booth during festivals like Made in Utah.

Currently a Doctor of Behavioral Health and Licensed Clinical Social Worker, and also with a psychotherapy private practice in Layton, Winsett says that she started Colors by Victoria “Because I needed a creative outlet. I just do it because I love it.”

Like me, Winsett made tie dyes as a teenager. But unlike me, she says, “Now I know much more about design, chemistry, fabric, and color-permanency so my tie dyes now stay bright and beautiful and don’t turn your laundry colors.”

Unlike many entrepreneurs featured in Made in Utah articles, Winsett isn’t in any hurry to expand her business. She says, “In five years I will still be a small artisan creator. I am not interested in growing or doing this full-time. I am a full-time psychotherapist who does this as a creative outlet,” adding, “Do what you love” as advice to others who might want to pursue a similar creative pathway.

You can find Winsetts designs at her Facebook store, Colors by Victoria, and at the Made in Utah Festivals.
