Wasatch Blossom Receives International Spirits Competition Medal
NEW WORLD DISTILLERY Wasatch Blossom Utah Tart Cherry Liqueur AWARDED SILVER MEDAL: Sunset Magazine International Spirits Competition
EDEN, UT, November 2019 — On the heels of being awarded a Bronze Medal by the American Craft Spirits Association in 2018, New World Distillery’s Wasatch Blossom Utah Tart Cherry Liqueur brings home a Silver Medal from the prestigious Sunset Magazine International Spirits Competition.
Founder, Ashley Cross, states that New World Distillery is very particular in choosing the spirits competitions they enter and that decision is based on the degree to which the competitions are vetted as well as the type and number of spirits categories represented in each competition.
“We are a business and we don’t need accolades that we don’t respect.” Sunset Magazine is
the leading media brand of the Western lifestyle and this International Spirits Competition
makes its winning spirits part of the most influential spirit program in the country. Its judges are some of the most experienced professionals in the country.
This uniquely-crafted liqueur is one of three farm-to-bottle products and one that is often described by the distillers as “a selfish experiment that went crazy.” It is the top selling Utah-made fruit liqueur in the state and is available at DABC stores and at the distillery in Eden.
Head Distiller, Chris Cross, believes the key to this spirit’s popularity is replacing brandy as the base spirit with New World Distillery’s own, site-distilled agave spirits and sweetening with 100% organic agave nectar versus sugar. Brandy and sugar are the traditional ingredients used in the creation of liqueurs, but like everything New World Distillery produces, this liqueur’s appeal is that it is unlike any other comparable spirit. The Eden-based distillery is proud to have won such a prestigious award in a competition that included liqueurs from all over the world.
Wasatch Blossom Tart Cherry Liqueur is made with Montmorency tart cherries which Chris describes as the superfood of cherries, sourced from a local, family-operated farm in Willard,
Utah. “There are about 400 cold-pressed cherries in every bottle.” The complete elimination of refined sugar is a practice unheard of in liqueurs but one that guarantees an earthy, true flavor versus a syrupy medicinal flavor that categorizes a lot of liqueurs.
All winners will be posted on Sunset’s website, thedatastill.com and winecompetitions.com. Be sure to look for the Jan. / Feb. 2020 issue of SUNSET magazine as it showcases this year’s winners!
